Trinamool MP Mahua Maitra crossed the threshold of ‘decency’ in the Ethics Committee meeting of Parliament. BJP MP Aparajita Sharangi complained. Mahua was summoned by the Parliament’s Ethics Committee on Thursday in the ‘bribery question’ case. Aparajita was also on the panel where the committee members spoke to Mahua.
Opposition MPs including Mahua walked out of the ethics committee meeting on Thursday. Mahua said he was asked ‘personal and unethical’ questions. Mahua also wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, alleging that he was verbally ‘undressed’ through questions. BJP MP Aparajita dismissed his allegations on Friday. He said, “Mahua went beyond all decency. We called Mahua. He was supposed to answer all the questions. The chairman of the committee only asked questions based on the affidavit given by Darshan Hiranandani. So there is no question of delimitation or going beyond the affidavit.”
