The Latin American country of Bolivia has severed diplomatic relations with Israel due to the attack on Gaza. Neighbors Colombia and Chile also withdrew their ambassadors from the Middle Eastern country. Reuters news.

Bolivia became the first country to actively cut diplomatic ties with Israel over the Gaza war. The country’s Deputy Foreign Minister Freddy Mamani said in a press conference that Bolivia has decided to sever diplomatic relations with Israel, rejecting and condemning the aggressive and disproportionate Israeli military attack on the Gaza Strip.

Three other South American countries have condemned Israel’s attacks on Gaza and the deaths of Palestinian citizens. They also called for a ceasefire. Bolivia and Chile have also pressed for humanitarian aid to be sent to the zone and accused Israel of violating international law.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro X called the attack a ‘genocide of the Palestinian people’ in a post on X.

Israel’s foreign ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Other South American countries such as Mexico and Brazil have also called for a ceasefire.

“What we have now is the madness of the Israeli prime minister, who wants to wipe out the Gaza Strip,” Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Friday.
