A video of Alikadam Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mehruba Islam breaking the award trophy after a football match in Bandarban has gone viral on social media. There is now tension in the area over the incident.
The incident took place on the ground of Reparpara Government Primary School of Chaikshyong Union of the upazila on Friday evening.
It is known that UNO Mehruba Islam of Alikadam was present as the chief guest in the final game of Junior XI vs Raparpara Bazar XI football team under the initiative of Resident Independent Youth Society. During the closing speech of the game, he suddenly got angry and broke the trophy in front of the crowd. When the video of this incident went viral on social media, it was widely criticized.
Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban Yachmin Parveen Tibriji said, the incident is sad and the matter is being investigated.
However, the upazila executive officer said that after the game, when the players of the winning and defeated teams were angry with the results, he broke them based on their words.
Meanwhile, when the country is celebrating the winners of Saaf football, such an incident of a government official has caused a huge reaction in the area including social media.
Alikadam Upazila Chairman Md. Abul Kalam demanded removal of UNO.
Locals said that after the game, when UNO was speaking on the field to distribute the trophy, the players started fussing over the result. While giving a speech, UNO threw the trophies in front of the guests and players.
