Khulna’s four sisters Mariam Mannan, Kaniz Fatema, Mahfuza Akhter, Aduri Akhter are now staying at Mymensingh’s Phulpur police station in search of the body of their mother who went missing 27 days ago. Her daughter Maryam Mannan is claiming that the body of a woman recovered 13 days ago is that of missing Rahima Begum from Khulna.
Their mother Rahima Begum (52) went missing from Maheshyapasha village in Khulna city on the night of August 27. The girls are negotiating with the police to identify the body. Mariam Mannan claims that it is her mother’s body. Abdullah Al Mamun, OC of Phulpur police station, said that it is not possible to identify the body with their description. DNA test can confirm whether it is the body of their mother. If the body is identified, Rahima Begum’s children will get their mother’s body.
Phulpur police station OC Abdullah Al Mamun also said that on September 10, at around 12 noon, Phulpur police station recovered the decomposed body of an unidentified woman from the bushes near the graveyard of Kukail Daroga house in Baola union of Phulpur upazila of Mymensingh. The woman was wearing a pink salwar. There was a pink, black, purple and orange colored cotton kameez printed on it. A pink veil was wrapped around the neck. Later, the body was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. After the post-mortem, the body was taken from Mymensingh at around 12 pm on September 12 and buried at the Anjuman grave site adjacent to Phulpur Kaziyakanda Madrasa. The woman was believed to be around 28 years old at the time. The recovered body of the woman was half-melted. His clothes and evidence were collected. After that news and notices were published in various national dailies, but the identity of the dead woman’s body was not found. Maryam and her sisters came to the police station on Friday around 10:30 am. They saw the dead woman’s salwar and said it matched her mother’s. However, it is not possible to identify the body in this way. Accurate identification is not possible without DNA testing. An application for DNA test will be made in court on Sunday. After the DNA test, it can be completely confirmed whether the body belongs to Rahima.
Meanwhile, Maryam Mannan and her sisters said that on the night of August 26, she went missing while fetching water from the tap under the house. When he did not return home after an hour, his children started searching. Their mother’s shoes, veil and water container were lying beside the tubewell but they could not find her. In this regard, a GD was filed on August 27 and a case was filed on August 28 at Daulatpur police station in Khulna. RAB-06 was informed on August 29. Children held a press conference at Khulna Press Club on August 31. Khulna DC North Molla Jahangir was informed on September 1. On September 8, the family submitted a written request to Police Commissioner Masudur Rahman Bhuiya for help in finding the mother. The family members formed a human chain in front of the Khulna Press Club on September 9, in front of the National Press Club on September 10 and in front of the National Museum on September 14.
Maryam Mannan said her neighbors were behind her mother’s disappearance. Neighbors threatened to rape and kill them due to land disputes.
Regarding the recovered body, Maryam Mannan said, ‘My mother has been missing for 27 days. We are constantly looking for our mother. On September 10, I rushed here after receiving the news of the recovery of the body of an unidentified woman at Phulpur police station. Looking at the picture of the dead body, my mother’s forehead and hands are clearly understood. Still we will depend on the official decision. I came to look for mother. If she is not my mother, I will look for her elsewhere. We just want our mother.’
