A rickshaw driver named Jessore Alam Mondal (35) was beaten to death by the opponents. The incident took place in Chatiantala village of Churamankathi union of Sadar upazila on Friday afternoon.
Alam Mandal was a follower of Abdul Mannan Munna, the former chairman of the local Churamankati Union. It has been alleged that the current chairman Daud Hossain Dafadar’s people killed him due to dominance.
The home of Alam Mandal is in Sultanpur village of Kumarkhali Upazila in Kushtia. He lived in a rented house in Chatiantala village of Jessore Sadar Upazila for a long time.
Imran Hossain, the son of the deceased, said that around 1 pm, the terrorists from Chatiantala area called his father and took him away. Then 15-16 terrorists took him to Kazi’s garden and beat him to death. The soles of his feet were pierced with multiple blows with a narrow sword and he was beaten with a hammer to break his legs. After receiving information, he was rescued and taken to Jessore General Hospital where the doctor declared him dead.
Emergency department doctor Shubashis Roy said that he died due to injuries caused by the beating. His leg is broken.
Tajul Islam, OC of Jessore Kotyali Police Station, said that the incident of killing Alam Mondal happened due to the dispute between the followers of the current chairman Daud Hossain and former chairman Abdul Mannan Munnar of Churamankati Union. Daud Hossain’s men beat Alam to death. Police are active in arresting those involved in the murder.
