Tanuja Mukherjee was born on 23 September 1943 in a Marathi family in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Father Kumarsen Samarth was a poet and film director and mother Shobhana Samarth was a popular actress of the forties. Three girls and one boy were born in this couple’s house. Tanuja was the second child. Tanuja Mukherjee is a versatile Indian actress. He started acting in Indian films at the age of five; He was active till 1975. He resumed work in 2002 after a long hiatus. Villa Theresa started his education in a kindergarten but had little interest in studies. So he focused on the acting world. His beautiful mother loved his outfit. She started acting as a child artiste in the movie ‘Hamari Betit’ (1950) with her elder sister Nutan as ‘Baby Tanuja’. She started acting as the main heroine in the film ‘Chabili’ (1960). His mother Shobhana was the director of the movie. He rose to fame with Kidar Sharma’s ‘Hamari Yaad Ayegi’ (1961). She grabbed everyone’s attention with the song ‘Ohhaske Mile Hamse’ in director Shahid Latif’s ‘Baharen Phir Vi Aayengi’ (1966). He acted in the movie ‘Jeene Ki Rahe’ (1969) with Jeetendra and became a huge commercial success. That year, Tanuja won the Best Supporting Actress award at the Filmfare for the movie ‘Paisa Yeh Pyaar’. The film ‘Hati Mere Sathi’ (1971) became a success. Later, he also acted in films like ‘Mere Jiban Sathi’, ‘Do Chor’, ‘Ekbar Muskra Do’ (1972), ‘Pavitra Papi’ (1970), ‘Bhoot Bangla’, ‘Anubhav’ etc. In the sixties, Tanuja started acting equally in Bengali films in Kolkata. He feels that Bengali films gave him another dimension and he used to get satisfaction from it. Acted opposite Bengali cinema legend Uttam Kumar in ‘Deya Neya’ (1963), ‘Anthony-Firingi’ (1967), ‘Rajkumari’ (1970). Apart from Uttamkumar, he acted in several successful films opposite Soumitra Chatterjee. ‘Tin Bhuvaner Paade’ (1969) and ‘Pratham Kadam Phool’ are among them. After a long break, he acted in a few more films including ‘Sathiya’ (2002), ‘Rules’ (2003), ‘Khaki’ (2004) and ‘Son of Sardar’. He has also done several small screen roles. ‘Babban Bhai Vs Bimala Tai’ and ‘Arambha’ may be mentioned. Tanuja has made a place for herself in Indian cinema after many struggles and efforts in her life. Once a journalist asked him about writing his autobiography, he got annoyed and said, ‘I will never write one. I love to read books but I can’t write. Apart from that, I have given so many interviews for so many days, only if you research them, you will get the logistics of writing a biography. Anyone can write if they feel like it. I don’t want to.’ This actress has received many awards and honors for working in Hindi, Bengali, Marathi and Gujarati films.
