‘Referendum’ today in 4 regions of Ukraine, including Zaporizhia

Referendums are being held on Friday in four regions of Ukraine controlled by Russian-backed separatist groups and Moscow. This voting will continue till next Tuesday.

This alleged vote was organized to align with Russia. Western countries strongly condemn the matter. BBC news.

Local time on Tuesday, Russia-backed leaders in Ukraine announced plans for a vote. This is a major challenge to the West, which could make the war more dire.

However, Ukraine is rejecting this referendum. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has already announced that they will never recognize the results of this vote.

Russia-backed separatists announced referendums Friday through Tuesday (September 23-27) in Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhia provinces, which make up about 15 percent of Ukraine’s territory, or an area the size of Hungary.

Election officials will go door to door with portable ballot boxes to poll.

Russia’s aggression has slowed somewhat in recent months and Ukraine has retaken parts of the northeast. Now Russian-backed officials in the east and south say they want a vote on joining Russia.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has been at war for the past seven months. Many civilians have lost their lives in the fierce fighting between the two countries. Women and children were also killed. Millions of houses have been reduced to rubble. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Western sanctions have triggered a global economic crisis. All food prices have increased.

The referendum had been under discussion among Moscow authorities for months. But since Ukraine recently recaptured several areas, their organization is accelerating.

The result is believed to be inevitable for Russia in the polls, which started on Friday. In 2014, Crimean referendum was rigged and criticized internationally. 97 percent of the vote was in favor of formal annexation with Russia.
