An old woman named Basant Rani Sarkar (80) died in a fire in Satkhira’s Kaliganj. She is the wife of deceased Ishwar Rakhal of Sheoratala area of Dakshin Sripur Union of Upazila.
Locals said that a distant relative of the old woman had a grocery store in Shewratala area. Old lady Basant Rani used to spend time in that shop every day after noon.
A sudden fire broke out in the shop around 7 pm on Tuesday evening due to a kerosene-powered lamp. Vasant Rani was seriously injured in the fire with 70 percent of her body burnt. Later the locals rescued him and admitted him to Satkhira Medical College Hospital. When the condition deteriorated there, he died on the way to Dhaka for better treatment on Wednesday (September 21) early night.
Sub-inspector Sheikh Monir Hossain of the police station said that a detailed report of the deceased has been prepared. The body will be sent to the morgue on Thursday (September 22) morning. The cause of the fire is under investigation. He said that the actual cause of death will be known after the proper report and investigation.
