‘Ainna gives us Abbare, Abba ehn Kata kay na, Abba Kata Kaay we don’t sleep in Rai. Our father went to Saudi. It doesn’t come anymore, when someone comes home, this is how the ignorant children of Awal who died in Saudi Arabia started crying.
According to family sources, Awal Hawlader (35), son of Khorsed Hawlader of Kaunia village of Chawra Union of Amtali Upazila, migrated to Saudi Arabia in August 2021.
He regularly sent money from Saudi Arabia. The impoverished family gradually started to see the face of prosperity. But on September 10, Awal died of a heart attack in Saudi Arabia. His body was later deposited at Marghazi Hospital in Guraida, Al-Qasim District, Saudi Arabia. When Awal’s family contacted Saudi Arabia after receiving the news of his death, they were informed that they would have to pay Tk 2 to 3 lakh to bring his body to the country. But it is not possible for that poor family to afford so much money. Awal’s family is unable to bring the body home due to lack of money.
Meanwhile, Awal’s children are anxious to see their father for the last time.
On the other hand, the death of Awal brought darkness to his family. Wife Khadija (30) spends days crying holding the picture of her husband with two daughters and a son after the death of the only earner in the family.
Awal’s father Khorshed Hawladar said, “I sent my son to Saudi Arabia a year ago by taking a loan. But after one year the boy died. Now I don’t want anything, I just want my son’s body. In this old age I would find some comfort. I want to put my son to bed next to the mosque. He sought the cooperation of the Expatriate Welfare Ministry and the intervention of the Honorable Prime Minister to bring his son’s body from abroad.
Amtali Upazila Executive Officer (Additional Duty) SM Sadiq Tanveer said over the phone that the upazila administration will provide all kinds of support to the helpless family.
