Police recovered the body of a child named Lamia (7) from North Damudya village of Darul Aman Union of Damudya in Shariatpur. His body was recovered from a pond 500 meters away from the child’s house around 8 pm on Tuesday. The child went missing after noon on his way to play. The police and the child’s family said that the child was killed and the body was thrown in the sink.
According to Damudya police station sources, Lamiya is the daughter of Habib Bepari of North Damudya village of Darul Aman Union of Damudya upazila. After lunch on Tuesday left home to play sports around 3 o’clock. His grandmother’s house was next door, he was supposed to go there. As soon as he came out of the house, miscreants grabbed him. Earlier in the evening, the family members came to know that Lamia had not gone to her grandmother’s house. Then the family members took him to different places. Micing is also done in the area. Locals saw him floating in a pond near Lamiad’s house at around 8 pm and informed the police. Later, the police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue.
Locals saw a man named Ujjal Fakir roaming on the road through which Lamia travels to her grandmother’s house. Later in the evening, village policeman Nannu Mia and neighbor Jamal Hossain asked Ujjal if he had seen Lamia or not. Ujjal got angry. Nannu Mia and Jamal Hossain were cut and injured with a sharp blade. If their condition became critical, they were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment on Tuesday night.
Police have arrested Ujjal Fakir and their neighbor Sabuj Atskar for their alleged involvement in Lamia’s murder.
Lamia’s uncle Shaheen Sikder said, Lamia’s father runs a tea shop in Damudya Bazar. Poor people, no enmity with anyone. There is a dispute over land with a neighboring party. I don’t understand why they killed such a stupid child Lamia.
Damudya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sharif Ahmed said, We believe that Lamia was killed and the body dumped in the sink. There are injury marks on the body. We have arrested two suspects. The child’s family will file a case in this incident. And the incident is being investigated deeply. There are CCTV cameras at various points in Lamiad’s house and road. The footage of that camera will be collected and seen.
