The bodies of three people, including uncle and nephew, who went missing in the boat sinking while visiting the old Brahmaputra river at Sahebchar in Hossainpur, Kishoreganj, have been recovered. Kishoreganj Fire Service Station Officer Md. Abuzar Giffari confirmed the recovery of three bodies.
The three rescued are Abdus Samad’s son of Charshankhchura village of Pagla police station in Mymensingh district. Sifat (16), son of Monir Hossain of the same village. Yasin (7) and Shamim Mia (30), son of Kitab Ali of Tarapasha village, Sidla Union, Hossainpur Upazila, Kishoreganj. The first two are cousins.
Earlier, a boat ride was held on the old Brahmaputra river near Saheberchar village of Hossainpur in the district last Monday. Thousands of people gathered in that boat. Many people also see Baich by riding small boats. They disappeared when one of their boats sank. A rescue operation was launched from Monday evening but the three could not be found. Today three bodies were found in two places.
Kishoreganj Fire Service Station Officer. Abujar Gifari Janan, when the bodies of two people were found floating near the Hossainpur bridge around six o’clock this Wednesday, the locals informed the police. On receiving the information, police and fire service personnel recovered the bodies of Sifat and Yasin. Then around 8:30 am, Shamim’s body was found floating in Namkhail area of Nandail Upazila of neighboring Mymensingh district, about three to four kilometers away from where the boating took place, and the locals informed the police.
Hossainpur upazila executive officer Rabeya Parvez said that the bodies of three people have been handed over to their families. The bodies were handed over without post-mortem following the request of the family members. And the upazila administration has also been asked to bear the cost of their burial. If the families want to take it will be given immediately. After that the necessary measures will be taken knowing whether the families need other support or not.
