Kunio Hoshi murder: Death sentence of 4 militants upheld

The High Court upheld the death sentence of four JMB members in the murder case of Japanese citizen Kunio Hoshi. Besides, the high court acquitted another accused.

On Wednesday (September 21), Justice Md. Mostafizur Rahman and Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolan made up the High Court Division Bench announced the verdict.

The convicts are: Masud Rana alias Mamun, Liton Mia, Ahsan Ullah Ansari, Sakhawat Hossain.

On this day, Ishahak Ali was acquitted from the case as the charges were not proved.

The same bench of the High Court fixed Wednesday (September 21) for announcing the verdict after hearing the death reference and the appeal of the accused to approve the death sentence of five JMB members in the case discussed last Monday (September 19).

Additional Attorney General Sheikh Mohammad Morsed heard the state’s side in the court. He was assisted by Assistant Attorney General A Manna, Zakir Hossain Masud and Nirmal Kumar Das. Apart from this, lawyer Ahsan Ullah and Md. Shamsul Islam. Meanwhile, the state-appointed lawyer Md. was on behalf of a fugitive accused. Hafizur Rahman Khan.

On September 4, the hearing of the death reference and the appeal of the accused to approve the death sentence of five militants in the killing of Kunio Hoshi began.

On February 28, 2017, the court ordered the execution of 5 terrorists in the case of the murder of Japanese citizen Kunio Hoshi. One is acquitted. Judge Naresh Chandra Sarkar of Special Judge Court of Rangpur announced the verdict.
