High Court verdict in Kunio Hoshi murder case today

The verdict of the High Court today is whether the sentence of five militants sentenced to death in the murder case of Japanese citizen Kunio Hoshi will be upheld.

Wednesday (September 21) Justice Md. The High Court Division Bench consisting of Mostafizur Rahman and Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolan is scheduled to announce the verdict.

The same bench of the High Court fixed Wednesday (September 21) for announcing the verdict after hearing the death reference and the appeal of the accused to approve the death sentence of five JMB members in the case discussed last Monday (September 19).

Additional Attorney General Sheikh Mohammad Morsed heard the state’s side in the court. He was assisted by Assistant Attorney General A Manna, Zakir Hossain Masud and Nirmal Kumar Das. Besides, lawyer Ahsan Ullah and Md. Shamsul Islam. In addition, the state-appointed lawyer Md. was on behalf of a fugitive accused. Hafizur Rahman Khan.

On September 4, the hearing of the death reference and the appeal of the accused to approve the death sentence of five militants in the killing of Kunio Hoshi began.

On February 28, 2017, the court ordered the execution of 5 terrorists in the case of the murder of Japanese citizen Kunio Hoshi. One is acquitted. Judge Naresh Chandra Sarkar of Special Judge Court of Rangpur announced the verdict.

Those sentenced to death are JMB Masood Rana alias Mamun alias Minister Ishahak Ali, Liton Mia alias Rafiq, Sakhawat Hossain and Ahsan Ullah Ansari alias Biplab. Ahsan Ullah Ansari is absconding among them.

The judge acquitted Abu Saeed as his involvement in the murder was not proven.

The other 2 accused in this case, Nazrul Islam and Saddam Hossain, were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the police. They are exempted from prosecution. The trial of the remaining 6 people began.

Rathish Chandra Bhowmick, the lawyer for the government, said that the testimony of 55 witnesses was taken in 60 working days in the case. At the same time, a witness testified on behalf of the accused. Arguments in the case ended on February 20.

On the morning of October 3, 2015, miscreants shot him on his way to his quail grass farm home in Nachnia Bill Alutari area of ​​Kaunia Upazila. Later, when he was rescued and admitted to Rangpur Medical, the doctors on duty declared him dead.

In this incident, Kaunia police station OC Rezaul Karim filed a murder case as the plaintiff. Later, the police filed a chargesheet against eight people, including JMB regional commander Masood Rana.
