The fatal accident took place yesterday afternoon at platform number three of Kharagpur station in West Medinipur district. According to GRP sources, Aritra Sen, a final year student of Mechanical Engineering Department of Kharagpur IIT met with an accident at Kharagpore Station while getting down from the moving Howrah-Ghatshila train. While getting down from the fast moving train, the student could not keep the balance of his body and hit his ankle very hard. He fell on the platform and cried in pain. As soon as the accident was noticed, the GRP on duty at Kharagpur station rushed to the spot.

Legs can be omitted

After the accident, the injured student was taken to the railway hospital by the GRP operation. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, the IIT authorities took them to the IIT BC Roy Hospital for treatment, after which they were treated. However, the situation did not improve much. The doctors expressed fear that the talented student’s leg may have to be amputated. Later he was brought to Kolkata for treatment.

Acknowledging the accident, Kharagpur IIT Registrar Tamal Nath said that a student of IIT met with an accident at Kharagpur station. His leg was injured in the accident. After being treated at the IIT hospital, he was sent to a hospital in Kolkata.
