After the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Charles became heir to the British throne without formality. Charles, 73, now heads the Commonwealth of Nations, an alliance of 56 independent states. The former Prince of Wales has to go through formalities to take over the throne. Charles will be formally proclaimed King of Britain from St James’s Palace in London.

Charles’ full name is Charles Philip Arthur George. However, the heir to the British throne wants to be known as King Charles III. There will be a change in the designation of the next claimants. Charles’ wife’s new title is Queen Consort, as the word consort is used for the wife or husband of the King or Queen.
