The hanging body of an Islamic University student was recovered from her in-laws’ house.
Her husband and father-in-law were arrested by the police after filing a murder case against her father in this incident.
Gangni Police Station OC Abdur Razzak said that on Friday, the police recovered Nishat Tasneem Urmi’s body from her in-laws’ house in Kathuli Mor area of Gangni Upazila of Meherpur.
Deceased Nishat Tasneem was a third year student of Bachelor (Honours) Department of Folklore Studies at Urmi Kushtia Islamic University. Loved and married Ashikuzzaman Prince. Prince is the son of Shafiul Islam Hashem of the same area. He is a post graduate student of Kushtia Government College. They have a 13-month-old son.
Urmi’s father Golam Kibria said, Thursday night Beya [উর্মির শ্বশুর] Shafiul Islam told by phone that Urmi is sick, she has been sent to the hospital.
“When I got the news, I went to the hospital and saw Urmi’s body lying there. Later, when asked about the cause of death from Beyai, he said – Urmi committed suicide by hanging a veil from the window of the house. But there were injuries on Urmi’s body.”
Urmi’s father-in-law businessman Shafiul Islam Hashem said, “My son, grandson and grandmother were sleeping in one room. He was suddenly awakened by the sound of his grandson’s cry. This time the boy could not find the grandmother. Then I turned on the lights in the room and searched and found that the old lady had committed suicide with a noose hanging from the window of the next room.”
When asked the reason for this, he told reporters, “Boma’s behavior was very good. He had a good relationship with his son. This should not happen. Still, if there is any evidence of the boy’s involvement in the incident, he will be prosecuted according to law.”
Gangni police station OC Abdur Razzak said that the victim’s father has filed a murder case at Gangni police station. The body was recovered and handed over to the family after post-mortem.
