Municipal Awami League leader Chhaydar Rahman Malitha (50) was shot dead by miscreants in Pabna. The incident took place on Friday (September 9) around 1:00 pm at Najur intersection near Char Bangabaria village mosque in Hemayetpur union of Sadar upazila.

The deceased Chhaydar Rahman is the son of deceased Haran Malitha of Kabalipara Mahalla of Bangabaria Union. He was involved with various social organizations including the member of the executive committee of Pabna Municipal Awami League.

Advocate Taslim Hasan Khan Sumon, President of Municipal Awami League confirmed the truth of the incident.

The family of the deceased and local residents said that Chhaydar Rahman was sitting with some people in a tea shop at Najur Mor shortly before Friday prayers. At that time, some miscreants wearing helmets came and surrounded Chaydar. The people who were with Chhaydar ran away in fear. At that time, miscreants fired several rounds at him. He was killed on the spot.

Pabna Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Masood Alam said that everyone was busy praying in the mosque at the time of the incident. In this gap someone shot Chhayder Rahman and ran away. After receiving the information, the police reached the spot. After preparing the report, the body will be sent to Pabna General Hospital morgue.

He said that this incident may happen due to previous disputes. The police officer said that it is not possible to say more than this without investigation.

Saddam Molla, the grandson of the deceased Chhaydar Rahman, said that he (Chhaydar) called him (Saddam) on the phone at noon. The killing took place within 10 minutes of speaking at the market and heading home for Friday prayers.

Dilruba Jahan, wife of the deceased, said that there was a dispute with Chaydar Rahman over the land of a former chairman of Hemayetpur UP. The former chairman had been threatening to kill him for several days. He was threatened to be killed on Thursday as well. As a result, he was publicly killed.

Now what to do with three minor children? Dilruba said that those who killed her husband should be punished.

Pabna Superintendent of Police Akbar Ali Munshi visited the spot. Police have started arresting the killers by collecting CCTV footage.

Pabna Municipal Awami League President Advocate Taslim Hasan Sumon said that it is believed that the identified terrorists killed him because of a previous dispute. He strongly condemned and protested the murder and demanded immediate arrest of the killers. He said that they will organize a program to protest the killing.
