Body of EB student recovered, husband absconding

EB Correspondent: The body of a young woman named Nishat Tasneem Urmi (24), a fourth year student of the Department of Folklore of the Islamic University (EB) has been recovered. Police recovered the body on Thursday night and sent it to Meherpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Nishat is the daughter of Gholam Kibria of Chandpur village of Gangni Gangni Upazila in Meherpur. Her husband is Ashikuzzaman Prince, son of Hashem Shah, owner of Padma Enterprises in Gangni. He is absconding since the incident.

Meanwhile, her father Gholam Kibria claimed Urmi’s death as murder and said, “Bei Hashem Shah called late at night and said that Urmi was taken to Gangni Health Complex as she was ill. When asked to know the cause of the illness, he said that there was a leak in the window of the house. I rushed to the health complex and found out that Urmi had died long ago. There are injury marks in different parts of the body. They kill my daughter and cover it up as suicide.’

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station Abdur Razzak said that the body was recovered from Upazila Health Complex and sent to Meherpur General Hospital morgue. A case of wrongful death has been registered in Gangni police station in this incident. Cause of death can be ascertained after investigation.
