A student of Islamic University (EB) Tasneem Urmi (23) was allegedly strangled to death in Kathuli Mor area of Gangni Upazila in Meherpur. Husband Ashrafuzzaman Prince fled after the incident.
Police recovered Urmi’s body from her husband’s house on Friday (September 9).
The mother of a son is the daughter of Golam Kibria of Chandpur village of Urmi Upazila. Besides, she was a student of Folklore Studies Department of Islami University in 2017-18 academic year.
In this regard, Urmi’s father Golam Kibria said, late at night, Urmi’s father-in-law Hashem Shah said on the phone that he was sick. He was taken to Gangni Health Complex. When asked the reason, he said that Urmi had put a noose on the window. After going to the health complex, I came to know that he died. He has injury marks on different parts of his body. He is being killed and covered up as suicide.
He also said, we inform the police. Later they came and took the body to the police station.
Meanwhile, Urmi’s classmates are demanding a fair investigation into the incident. The president and teachers of the department are expressing deep grief in this incident.
Locals said that Prince was addicted to drugs. He used to beat his wife for no reason. Urmi’s husband is an honors third year student of Kushtia Government College. They fell in love and got married four years ago.
Gangni Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Razzak said, Urmi’s body has injury marks. The cause of death will be known after the autopsy.
