World leaders and dignitaries have mourned and paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II. They recalled the queen’s deep sense of duty and determination as well as her sense of humor and compassion.
US President Joe Biden first met the Queen 40 years ago. He described him as ‘more than a king, a representative of an era’.
Recalling his visit to the UK in 2021 as president, Biden said, ‘He impressed us with his wisdom. Stirred with generosity. He generously shared his wisdom with us. ‘
Queen Elizabeth II met 13 US presidents during her long reign.
Former President Donald Trump said he would never forget the Queen’s ‘generous friendship, great wisdom and wonderful sense of humour’.
Trump wrote on his own online platform, Truth Social, ‘She was a wonderful and beautiful woman – there was no one like her!’
Another former US president, Barack Obama, said the Queen captivated the world with a reign ‘driven by grace, elegance and tireless hard work’.
Barack Obama, who has met the Queen on several occasions, said in a statement, ‘Time and time again we have been impressed by her warmth, her sense of humor even in her elegant and serious surroundings. ‘
French President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute, saying she was a ‘kind-hearted queen’ who was a ‘friend of France’.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau became emotional, saying he had a ‘deep and abiding love for Canadians. ‘
Queen Elizabeth was Canada’s de facto head of state. The country has seen 12 Prime Ministers during the Queen’s reign.
Prime Minister Trudeau said, ‘In a complicated world, her unwavering grace and determination brought comfort to us all. Trudeau also said he will miss his “lovely conversations” with the queen that showcased her “thoughtfulness, wisdom, curiosity.”
