12 causes of girder accidents identified in Uttara
The inquiry committee has identified 12 reasons for the girder accident of the BRT project. Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Department ABM Amin Ullah Noori has given this information.
He gave this information at a press conference on the report of the BRT project girder accident investigation committee at the ministry’s meeting room at the secretariat on Sunday (04 September) afternoon.
The secretary said that the work of the project was started without informing anyone during the holidays. Work was not allowed that day. It works first thing in the day. Daytime work is not allowed. Work is supposed to start after 8 pm.
The crane was being operated by an assistant. was working on uneven ground. The crane did not have a digital monitor. There was no permission. There was no traffic management during heavy work. There was no safety management. Those who came to work were not allowed.
Amin Ullah Noori also said that the contractor company CGGC is responsible for the accident that day. The accident happened due to their negligence. Punitive action will be taken against them.
The crane lost balance while lifting a box girder trailer of the BRT project in front of Paradise Tower at the head of Uttara Jasim Uddin Road on the afternoon of August 15. The heavy concrete girder fell on a private car moving on the Tongimukhi road. The private car flattened under the pressure of the heavy girder. Five people died inside the private car. Both were rescued and sent to the hospital. All the injured are members of the same family.
