It has been alleged that a housewife was beaten to death by her drug addict husband in Pekua, Cox’s Bazar. The incident took place at Daserghona area of Rajakhali Union of the upazila around 6 am on Sunday (September 4).
The deceased housewife Mortuza Begum (35) is the wife of Abdu Sukkur and daughter of Mojaher Ahmed of Daserghona area of Rajakhali Union in Pekua.
According to the police, the dead body was recovered from the deceased’s house lying on the bed at around 7 am.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Pekua police station, Khair Uddin Bhuiyan, who prepared the report on the condition of the body, said that the victim’s body had injury marks on the neck, abdomen, back and hands.
Ward member Badsha Mia said quoting locals, Sukkur is a drug addict. He takes drugs with what he earns as a day laborer. He used to quarrel with his wife about this issue. I have come to know that there is a quarrel between them even on Saturday night. The police took away the body of Shukkur’s wife in the morning.
Jasim Uddin, the brother of the victim, claimed that Abdu Sukkur was addicted to drugs as well as parakia and said that Sukkur had illicit relations with several girls. There was trouble in their family with this too. It could not be resolved even after explaining it to him through arbitration meetings. My sister was beaten to death early Sunday morning because she protested about these things.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Pekua police station. Farhad Ali said, the body was recovered and sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy. If the family of the deceased gives a written statement, legal action will be taken.
