Pakundia Upazila BNP of Kishoreganj called “protest march and protest rally” as part of the pre-announced central program on Saturday (September 3) in the three-way clash between BNP, police and Awami League. The upazila BNP convenor Advocate Jazal Uddin was named as the main accused and 140 unidentified persons were named. Thousands have been charged. Pakundia Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Shah Kamal filed the case under the Anti-Terrorism Act as the plaintiff on Saturday (September 3) night. Police have already arrested 20 people in the case.

Pakundia police station OC Md Sarwar Jahan confirmed the truth of the incident.

He said that last Saturday’s BNP rally and protest march was not allowed. Clash started when they wanted to come towards municipal market with procession from Syedgaon intersection. Hundreds of rubber bullets and tear gas were fired to control the conflict which lasted for about five and a half hours. 11 of our policemen were injured in the clash.

Pakundia Upazila BNP convener Advocate Jazal Uddin said that the police fired indiscriminately on our activists without any provocation. Also, Awami League leaders and activists joined forces with the police and attacked us. About 150 leaders and workers of our party were injured in this incident. Two of our workers were seriously injured in police firing. One of them is undergoing treatment in the ICU of a private hospital in Dhaka.

Chairman of Pakundia Upazila Parishad, Rafiqul Islam Renu, said that several of our leaders and activists were injured while fighting the BNP’s arson attack.

Doctor on duty in the emergency department of Pakundia Upazila Health Complex. Alamgir Hossain said that 11 policemen received treatment from the hospital. Several civilians have also received treatment. Two of them were sent to Kishoreganj General Hospital for advanced treatment.

It is to be noted that as part of the pre-announced central program, the clash started when Pakundia Upazila BNP wanted to come towards the municipal market with a protest procession from Syedgaon intersection at around 11 am on Saturday. Later, when the conflict turned into a three-way conflict between BNP, police and A-League, the municipal market turned into a battlefield. About two hundred people were injured on the three sides in this clash.
