A case has been filed in the court regarding the death of Shaon Raja in a clash with the police in Narayanganj. DB’s SI Mahfuzur Rahman Kanak has been made the main defendant in the petition.
Apart from this, the other defendants are Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anichur Rahman, District Superintendent of Police (SP) Golam Mostafa Russell, Additional Superintendent of Police (A Region) Nazmul Hasan, Sadar Model Police Station Deputy Inspector Kamruzzaman, Additional Police Superintendent (DB) Tarikul. Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Ameer Khosru, Police Constable Shahrul Alam, Sohag, Arif Dewan, Ferdous Dewan, Salim, Ripon, Jugal, Mamun, Riaz, Hafiz, Assistant Sub Inspector Iqbal Hossain, Delwar Hossain, Police Constable Zakir Hossain, Naeem, Rakib, Anis, Saidul, ASI Sohrab, Policeman Inzamamul, Russell, Khalilur Rahman, Mohsin, Mostakim, Shahadat, Fakhrul, Arif Dewan, Deepak Saha, Shaheen, Farid Uddin, Muraduzzaman, Shaheen, Kabir Hossain, Mannan, Rubel, 150 anonymous people including Sohag.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi pleaded the case in the court of Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Imran Mollah on Sunday (September 4) morning.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the plaintiff in the case, said that it is our democratic and constitutional right to hold a meeting. Shaon was killed by the police without provocation during our peaceful march in Narayanganj. He is an active worker in our youth group. The media released pictures of DB SI Mahfuzur Rahman Konak shot with a Chinese rifle. Shaun was killed in that shot. In the incident of the attack and shooting on us, we have filed a case in the court and sought justice from the learned court.
BNP lawyer Advocate Masud Uddin Talukder said that Shaon was shot dead by the police in the Narayanganj police attack. In this incident, we informed the court and filed a case in the name of 42 people including District Detective (DB) Police Sub Inspector (SI) Mahfuzur Rahman Kanak. We have requested the court to investigate the matter and take action.
Narayanganj Court Police Inspector Asaduzzaman said that the application of the case has been accepted. The court did not immediately issue any order.
On September 1, BNP’s founding anniversary, there was a clash between BNP activists and police during a rally at No. 2 Railgate area of Narayanganj city. Meanwhile, a young man named Shawn fell to the ground. Later he was rescued and taken to the hospital where the doctor declared him dead.
Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of 100-bed Narayanganj General Hospital, Sheikh Farhad, said two wounds were found on Shaon’s chest or side and lower back. Two deep wounds. However, no bullet was found in the body. One wound was found on the chest or side and another on the lower back.
After the incident, General Secretary of Fatulla Thana Awami League Shaukat Ali said that the deceased Shaon is his nephew and he is an Awami League worker.
However, the next day on September 2, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir went to Shaon’s house in Nabinagar Bazar of Fatulla police station. Then he said that it has been proved that Shaon used to do politics of the youth party and was an activist of the youth party. The police have no right to shoot a person dead in broad daylight even if he is not a politician. The police are lying. It is proved that Shaun died in police firing. They cannot in any way deny the responsibility of killing Shaun.
After the incident, Shaon’s elder brother Milan became the main plaintiff and filed a case at Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station. It has been alleged in the case that Shaon used to work as a mason in a workshop in Narayanganj Sadar Upazila’s Fatulla Thana’s Nabinagar area. On September 1 at 12:15 PM, Shaon was passing through the paved road in the No. 2 railway gate area of Narayanganj city. At that time, on the occasion of the founding anniversary, more than 5,000 leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations marched with illegal weapons including bricks and iron rods, hockey sticks and threw bricks and cocktails at the police. While attacking the police, Shaun fell down on the road with serious injuries on his head and chest due to the firing of those bricks and illegal weapons. Later, people on the street rescued him and took him to the hospital, where the doctors declared Shaun dead.
Meanwhile, in Narayanganj police and BNP activists clash, 71 people have been named in the police case and 5 thousand others have been made accused. Police SI Kamruzzaman filed the case at Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station on September 2 as the plaintiff.
