In the space of just one week, the price of green chillies has come down by half again in Phulbari of Dinajpur. A week ago, in Phulbari wholesale and retail market, green pepper was sold at 40 to 42 per kg, but the same pepper was sold on Sunday (September 4) at Tk 18 to Tk 20 in the wholesale market, and Tk 22 to Tk 23 in the retail market.

Shahjamal Hossain, a retail vegetable seller of Phulbari Sabzi Bazar, said that when the prices of daily commodities in the wholesale and retail markets are on the rise, relief has returned to the price of green chillies. By doing this, all types of customers can buy pepper according to their needs. At present, green chillies are being sold at Tk 20 per kg, which a week ago the same chilli had to be bought at Tk 40 to Tk 42 per kg.

Babu Hossain, a wholesale chili seller, said that the import of chili in the market was reduced due to the decrease in the import of chili in the market due to the stoppage of import from India and the loss of locally produced chili fields due to rain water. But currently, the price of chillies is on the decline due to the increase in the import of locally produced chillies along with the normal import of chillies from India. At present, chilies are within the purchasing power of people of all classes and professions.

Upazila executive officer and president of the upazila market monitoring committee. Riaz Uddin said that the price of green chillies is within the purchasing power of people of all classes and professions, which is a good aspect. However, there is a watchful eye so that no one can create instability in the market by creating an artificial crisis.
