Dhaka: As many as 45 cases (death references) awarded death sentence by trial court have come up in the High Court’s docket for hearing.

These cases will be heard in two phases in the vacation bench from September 4 to October 13.

Chief Justice Hasan Faiz Siddiqui has constituted 9 benches for this. After that, the list of 45 cases was published.

According to the Code of Criminal Procedure, if death sentence is passed by a judicial court, all the proceedings of the case have to be sent to the High Court for approval of that sentence. Accordingly the death reference comes to the High Court. Besides, the accused filed jail appeals and criminal appeals. After that the paper book of the case (all details of the case) is prepared. Then the cases come up for hearing.

In the first phase, from 4 to 21 September, Justice Syed Ziaul Karim, Justice SM Emdadul Haque, Justice ANM Basir Ullah, Justice Sheikh Md. Zakir Hossain, Justice Md. Badruzzaman, Justice Md. The bench headed by Mostafizur Rahman has kept 5 cases for hearing.

In the last phase, from September 22 to October 13, 5 cases have been kept for hearing in the bench led by Justice Md. Rezaul Haque, Justice Jahangir Hessen Salim, Justice Md. Habibul Gani.
