The hanging body of the student of Begum Rokeya University was recovered

The police recovered the hanged body of a student of Accounting and Information Systems Department of Begum Rokeya University (Berobi) in Rangpur. Her body was recovered from Azizul Haque student residence at Qamar Mor on Saturday (September 3) around 8:30 pm.

Student name is Shahnaz Akhtar (Munni). He was a 10th batch student of the university. His house is in South Ghagoa of Gaibandha Sadar Upazila.

Eyewitnesses said that the door of Shahnaz’s room was closed since 3 pm. At first they thought he might be sleeping. Later, as the door was closed for a long time, her mess friends knocked on the door at 8:30 pm but she did not respond. When they looked suspicious, they tried to look through the window and found her hanging from the ceiling fan with a veil wrapped around her neck. Later, the body was recovered through the police in the presence of the University’s Proctoral Body and Head of Department.

Golam Rabbani, Proctor of Begum Rokeya University, said, ‘I went to the spot with the proctorial body immediately after receiving the news that a student of the university committed suicide. After informing the police, they came and took down the body. The police have been asked to complete all the formalities.’

Officer-in-Charge (SI) of the University Police Outpost Izar Ali said, as soon as we got the news of the incident, we went to the spot along with the accompanying officers. After leaving, the hanging body of Shahnaz was lowered by breaking down the door in the presence of the proctorial body of the university, the president of the mess owner association and others. The parents of the student have been informed. They will actually be done after legal action.’
