He said that Inspector (Investigation) of Patuakhali Mirzaganj Police Station Humayun Kabir has come to Barisal to arrest the person named Milan Sikder alias Ripon Sikder (38) arrested on the charge of theft. He will be handed over to Mirzaganj police station as per rules.

Humayun Kabir, Inspector (Investigation) of Mirzaganj Police Station said that Milon alias Ripon is the accused in a 2011 murder case at Betagi Police Station in Barguna. He was absconding for a long time.

According to sources of Barisal river port and naval police, Milan Sikder alias Ripon Sikder left for Barisal along with his wife Tania on MV Parabat-12 launch from Dhaka on Friday night. On the way, the wallet of Shahidul Islam, a passenger on the second floor deck of the launch, was lost. When he reported the matter to the launch staff, they saw through the CCTV camera that Milan had stolen the man’s wallet. When Ripon was questioned about the matter, he confessed to the theft.

Shahidul Islam, a passenger and victim of the launch, said that when the passengers and staff were angry with Ripon for the crime of theft, he identified himself as the police. And his wife Tanya also sang safai for him. In the morning Ripon was handed over to the naval police when the launch arrived at the wharf.

Nazrul Islam, supervisor of Parabat 12 launch, said that the arrested Ripon had previously done the same in the Parabat-11 launch under the identity of the police. But due to lack of evidence, he got away by showing a police card. This time, the entire launch was uproarious due to the theft of the wallet. Then a former employee of Parabat-11 launch, who is currently working at Parabat-12 launch, came and identified Ripon.

OC Hasanat Zaman said that Ripon and his wife started arguing about their identity from the beginning of the initial questioning. After several hours of searching, I found out that he is a resident of Mirzaganj Upazila of Patuakhali. After calling Mirzaganj police station, I got to know that Ripon sometimes introduced himself as Ripon Sikdar and sometimes as Milan Sikdar. There is a murder case in his name at Betagi police station in Barguna.

The OC also said that the Mirzaganj Thana police sent them to Barisal after learning about the arrest of Ripon alias Milan. They reached Barisal and identified him.

On the other hand, Ripon’s wife Tanya has been released on bond as no involvement in the theft was found and the victim Shafiqul Islam did not file a written complaint. The OC also said that there are several other cases against Ripon.
