The fire service recovered the body of the missing customs intelligence officer Abdullah Hill Kafir (40) who fell from the ferry pontoon in Bekutia of Pirojpur. The body was recovered from Kacha river in South Gazipur area of Sadar upazila around 12:15 pm on Saturday. Pirojpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AJM Masuduzzaman confirmed the matter.
Earlier last Thursday at 8:30 pm, Abdullah Hill Kafi fell into the river from the pontoon of the ferry. He was Assistant Revenue Officer, Satkhira Circle-II, Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation. Abdullah Hill Kafi is the son of late Kefayet Ullah of Char Tikia village of Deula union in Borhanuddin upazila of Bhola.
According to police and family sources, last Thursday afternoon, Abdullah Hill Kafi was going to his aunt’s house in Barisal city in a private car from Satkhira. His wife and son were in that house. He was supposed to celebrate his birthday with his family that night. At around 8:30 pm, the driver went to the toilet after boarding the private car at the Kumirmara end of Bekutia Ghat in Pirojpur Sadar Upazila.
At this time Kafi got down from the car and went to the ferry pontoon. After that, while talking on the phone, he inadvertently went to the edge of the pontoon and fell into the raw river and disappeared.
On receiving the information, the fire service diving team rushed to the river overnight to rescue him. After that yesterday, the diving team conducted a rescue operation in the river from morning to six-thirty in the evening, but no trace of Kafi was found. Fire service started the rescue operation again from this morning. People of South Gazipur area saw the body floating and informed the fire service at around 12:15 pm. Later, when the divers recovered the body, Kafir’s uncle said. Safiullah identified the body.
Pirojpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AJM Masuduzzaman said, Abdullah Hill Kafi’s body was identified by his relatives. The fire service has handed over the body to the police station. The body will be handed over to the family after the legal process.
