In Kanthalia of Jhalkathi, the relatives of a farmer named Rakibul Islam protested and human chained with the body to demand justice for the murder.

On Saturday morning, they stood in front of the Kanthalia Press Club and formed a human chain after the protest.

Sakibul Islam, the son of the deceased, said that Shahidul Islam Shahid, Ibrahim Hossain Tapu, Nazrul Islam Howladar, Mizan Howladar, Dolly Begum, Mamun Howladar and many others were forcibly sowing rice seeds in their ancestral property on the afternoon of September 27.

When they prevented it, the opponents planned to attack with native weapons and sticks. At that time, his father Rakibul Islam, grandfather Shafi Uddin and uncle Tariqul Islam were cut and beaten. The injured were first taken to Amua Health Complex, then the doctor on duty sent them to Barisal Sherebangla Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

When his father Rakibul’s condition deteriorated during treatment, the doctor sent him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. After being under treatment there for six days, he died on the morning of September 2 yesterday.

A murder case has been filed in this regard, but the police have not arrested anyone. Enraged by this, the relatives of the deceased and local residents protested and human chained the body. They demanded exemplary punishment for the killers.

Rakibul’s pregnant wife Hasi Begum, father Md. Shafi Howlader, mother Lily Begum, son Sakibul Islam, elder brother Md. Tariqul Islam, sister Sultana Begum and brother Md. Arif and other relatives along with freedom fighters, teachers, UP members and local residents spoke.
