Dhaka: A motorcycle riding businessman named Iqbal Hossain (32) was killed after being hit by a covered van in Shanirakhra of the capital. His elder brother bank officer Moshiur Rahman (40) was injured in this incident.
The incident took place on Friday (September 2) around 10:30 pm. When he was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a coma, the doctor declared him dead at around 1:30 am. However, on the request of the family, the police handed over the body to the relatives at night without post-mortem.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Outpost Incharge (Inspector) Md. Bachchu Mia said, ‘Jatrabari Police handed over the dead body to the family without post-mortem. And the injured Moshiur Rahman has a slight injury on his hand. He was given first aid in the emergency department.’
Deceased Iqbal is the son of Altaf Hossain of Rampur village of Mirzaganj upazila of Patuakhali district. Motijheel lived in AGB Colony with his family and was involved in various businesses.
Iqbal’s elder brother Sarwar Ahmed said that Iqbal lived with his wife and one child in Motijheel AGB Colony. Yesterday morning, he took his son Sajid (3) to visit his elder brother Moshiur Rahman’s house in Shanir Akhara. There, from day to night, elder brother Moshiur Iqbal and his son Sajid came to drop him on Shanirakhra main road on his motorcycle. Around 10:30 pm, a covered van came from behind while parking the motorcycle under Shanirakhra footover bridge. As a result, Iqbal fell on the right side and was crushed by the wheels of the covered van. And Moshiur’s left hand was injured by falling on the left side. And Sajid fell on Moshiur’s body. But Sajid was not hurt.
Jatrabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mazharul Islam said that the wheel of the motorcycle slipped due to rain at night. Then the person was crushed under the covered van and died. Immediately after the incident, the car was seized and its driver arrested. Following the request of the family, the body was handed over to them without post-mortem.
