Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said that the government has taken various steps to keep the prices of daily commodities within the reach of consumers. As a result, prices of other daily commodities including edible oil are stable and bearable. This was said by the Minister of Commerce in response to the question of Mujibul Haque, a Member of Parliament of the opposition party raised on the table in the National Parliament on Thursday (September 1).
In response to Ebadul Karim’s question, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said that Bangladesh exported goods to 203 countries in the fiscal year 2021-22. Out of these, Bangladesh has trade deficit with 91 countries and trade balance with 112 countries is in favor of Bangladesh. In this financial year, the export amount is 60 thousand 971.26 million dollars and the import amount is 82 thousand 500 million US dollars. That is, the trade deficit in the financial year 2021-22 is 21 thousand 528.74 million US dollars. In response to Benazir Ahmed’s question, the commerce minister said that the trade deficit with the SAARC countries in the fiscal year 2021-22 is 11 thousand 986.98 million US dollars. In this financial year, the trade deficit with China is 19 thousand 353.37 million US dollars. The minister said that since September 1, 8930 products (98%) have received duty-free quota-free access to the Chinese market due to the government’s efforts. As a result, exports to China will increase, trade deficit will decrease.
