A teenager named Rifat Mia (17) was killed by his friend while playing mobile gambling in Sarishabari of Jamalpur. Police recovered the body on Thursday (September 1) afternoon and sent it to the morgue for autopsy. Deceased Rifat is the son of Ashraf Hossain, a mentally challenged person of Balardiya village of Sarishabari Municipality. According to police and local sources, Rahat Mia (20), son of Sultan Mahmud of Ballardiya village, and the deceased Rifat were two friends of the house. They gambled on their mobile phones while sitting on the balcony of Balardiya Government Primary School on Wednesday (August 31) evening. At one point, when a dispute arose between the two, a fight ensued. Based on this incident, Rahat went to Rifat’s house at night and beat him up. Later the family treated him locally but his condition worsened and he was admitted to Upazila Health Complex on Thursday morning. Rifat died on the way when the doctor on duty shifted him to Jamalpur General Hospital for better treatment. Muhammad Mohabbat Kabir, officer in charge of Sarishabari police station, said that the body of the deceased was recovered and sent to Jamalpur General Hospital morgue for post-mortem. As the killer fled after the incident, it has not been possible to arrest him yet. He also said that preparations are underway to file a murder case at the police station.
