Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will enter the field today in the Asia Cup match. Before that, the two groups got into a fight of words.
Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka started this fight. On Tuesday, he made a comment humiliating Bangladesh while having breakfast with Afghanistan’s bolads.
According to Shanaka, the Bangladesh team does not have as good bowlers as Afghanistan. Apart from Shakib and Mustafiz, there is no world class bowler in the Bangladesh team. Shanaka did not stop there. He also commented that Bangladesh is easy as an opponent.
No Bangladeshi cricketer responded to Shanaka’s sarcastic comments that day. A day later, however, Miraj said that the Tigers want to respond to Shanaka’s comments on the field instead of verbally.
Today is that time. But before that, Tiger Team Director Khaled Mahmud Sujan answered.
He sat down, even though there are two world-class bowlers in the Bangladesh team, he is not seeing any bowlers in the Sri Lankan team.
“I don’t know why Dasun Shanaka said this,” Khaled Mahmud Sujan said in a press conference at the ICC Cricket Academy ground in Dubai on Wednesday. Afghanistan is definitely a good squad in T20. He (Shanaka) said — we have only two (world-class) bowlers, right? I don’t even watch Sri Lankan bowlers.’
Spin bowling coach of Sri Lankan team Piyal Bijetunga was taken aback by Sujan’s comment. The Lankan coach called Sujan’s comment unreasonable.
He said, ‘I did not know this comment (of Sujan). Quality bowlers cannot be judged by statistics alone. Every team has quality bowlers, otherwise they wouldn’t be here. I don’t know who said it, I don’t believe it.’
Both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka lost their first match to Afghanistan in the group stage. So today’s match is an undeclared final for both teams.
