Iraq’s popular TikTok star Om Fahad was shot dead in front of his home in Zayuna district, eastern Baghdad, last Friday night. He has thousands of followers on TikTok.
CCTV footage showed that on Friday night, a group of men wearing black clothes and helmets came on motorbikes and opened fire on a black colored SUV after walking some distance. TikTok star Om Fahad was sitting in that car.
Iraq’s Ministry of Interior has said that an investigation committee has been formed to find out the reason for his murder. Om Fahad’s real name is Gufran Sayadi, he has half a million followers on TikTok. He used to make dance videos to pop music and share them on Tik.
Om Fahad was sentenced to six months in prison in February 2023 for making obscene remarks and violating public morals in his video. Although his videos have more than 1 million views.
In January 2023, the country’s Ministry of Interior set up a scandal committee to investigate the impact of Om Fahad’s indecent videos on Iraqi society and family culture.
This is not the first time that an influencer like Om Fahad has been killed. In January this year, 22-year-old YouTuber Tiba Al Ali was strangled to death by her father. The 23-year-old TikTok star was shot dead in September 2023. Besides, 22-year-old model and social media influencer Tara Farez was also killed by gunmen in 2018.
