The rescue team of Chapainawabganj Fire Service and Civil Defense recovered the body of a mentally challenged person from inside the abandoned housing of a deep tubewell in Nachole, Chapainawabganj.

Nachol police station officer-in-charge Tarekur Rahman Sarkar said that on Friday, April 26, at around 11 o’clock, Roni Burman (23), son of Chaitanya Burman, a mentally retarded (epileptic) fell inside the housing pipe of the abandoned deep tubewell of Tushar Burman village in East Nezampur Union of the upazila.

Farmers who went to irrigate the paddy fields in the fields at first heard the noise and moved forward, but they heard noises and screams inside the housing. Meanwhile, Roni Burman’s relatives informed the Nachol police station and Nachol fire station when they got suspicious and the police and fire service teams reached the spot and started rescue work.

Their rescue efforts failed for a long time. Later Chapainawabganj Fire Service and Civil Defense were informed and they recovered Roni Burman’s body from the depth of 160 feet of the abandoned housing at 4 pm.

Roni Burman’s father Chaitanya Burman said that he was suffering from epilepsy for about 15/16 years. The family of Roni Burman, the father of 3 children, is mourning. The body has been sent to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Preparations are underway to file a case in Nachol police station.
