A mother was killed by her son in Faridganj of Chandpur. The incident took place in Ichapur village of Paikpara South Union of the upazila on Friday (April 26) afternoon.
The name of the deceased woman is Ranu Begum (55). After this incident, son Russell (22) is absconding. After receiving the information, the police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to the morgue.
The deceased’s husband, Atar Khan, said, ‘Russel is the youngest of my three daughters and two sons. For the past few days we have been threatening to get her married. He killed me too.’
He also said, ‘I work as a cook in a local madrassa. The son called me in the afternoon and told me that his mother was slaughtered at home. I hung up the phone and immediately came home and found the body of wife Ranu Begum lying on the bed.
Local UP chairman Hossain Ahmed Rajan Sheikh said Atar Khan’s eldest son Farooq lived in Dhaka for about five years. Does not keep track of parents at home. As the remaining three daughters are married, they live in their husband’s house. Russell works as a laborer in a grocery store in Faridganj market.
Saidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Faridganj Police Station, said that according to the statement of Atar Khan and his daughter Shaheen, Russell killed his mother. Efforts are underway to arrest him.
