Gaibandha: In Gaibandha Sadar Upazila, the driver Ashraf Ali (55) was allegedly stabbed to death after he failed to rob an auto-rickshaw. The accused Sadekul Islam (32) was arrested by the police in this incident.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gaibandha Sadar Police Station Masud Rana confirmed the matter on Friday (April 26) afternoon.

Earlier, the incident took place in the area of ​​Railgate No. 75 of Kuptala Union on the Gaibandha-Lakshipur regional road of the upazila on Thursday night.

The deceased Ashraf Ali is the son of the deceased Faizar Rahman of Sahar Vitar area of ​​Kholahati union of upazila and the accused Sadekul Islam is the son of Hossain Alir Hossain of Ramprasad area of ​​Kuptala union.

Police and locals said that Ashraf Ali was returning home from Kuptala in a rickshaw around 11:30 pm on Thursday. At that time, when he reached the area of ​​railway gate number 75 of Kuptala, Sadekul, who was already on the way to rob, blocked his way. At that time, he showed the knife to the rickshaw and asked the driver to leave with the key.

At one stage when a scuffle started between the two, Sadekul stabbed the rickshaw driver Ashraf Ali in the stomach. When he screamed, the locals rushed to rescue Ashraf Ali and admitted him to Gaibandha General Hospital. He died in the night while undergoing treatment there.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Gaibandha Sadar Police Station Masud Rana said that a murder case was registered in Sadar Police Station in the morning. He said that the accused Sadekul Islam has been arrested and handed over to the court.
