Two children drowned in Panchagarh river

Panchagarh: Two children Almi Akhtar (12) and Israt Jahan Sifat (9) died after drowning in the Chawai river in Panchagarh.

The accident took place on Friday (April 26) in Chaitanyapara area of ​​Amarkhana Union of Panchagarh Sadar Upazila on Chawai River.

It is known that the deceased Alami is the daughter of Abdul Aziz of that area and daughter of Sifat Saiful Islam. They are both cousins.

Locals said that Almi and Sifat went to bathe in Chawai river near the house at noon. When Sifat drowned while taking a bath in the river, Almi came forward to save him. Later both of them drowned in the water. At that time, a child who was on the bank of the river informed their family about the matter, they came to the spot and rescued them dead from under the water. On receiving the information, the police recovered the bodies of the two dead children.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Panchagarh Sadar Police Station Palash Chandra Roy said, one of the two children knew how to swim and the other did not. Locals say that both of them drowned together while trying to save each other. The body has been handed over to the family after the post-mortem through the UP Chairman.

Amarkhana Union Parishad Chairman Nurul Islam Nuru told BanglaNews that the police have conducted preliminary examination of the two bodies. As there is no complaint from anyone including the family, the family has been informed.
