A farmer named Omar Ali Mistry (55) tragically died while guarding Boro paddy fields in Nalitabari, Sherpur. The incident took place in Batkuchi Tilapara, a hilly village of the upazila around nine o’clock on Thursday night. The deceased Omar Mistry is the son of deceased Tamiz Uddin of that village.
According to local sources, Omar Mistry of Batkuchi village in Poragaon Union of the upazila went to guard his paddy fields at night like any other day. However, on Thursday night, he was alone in the paddy field inside the hill, although there were many local farmers around on other nights. In this situation, between eight and nine o’clock in the night, a group of wild elephants came down from the hill and suddenly attacked Omar Mistry. At that time, the elephants group took out the stomach and brain of Omar Mistry by twisting their trunks and crushing them under their feet and left. After some time, the local people went to the spot without seeing Omar Mistry and found his dismembered body lying there.
Locals said that during the day, a group of wild elephants was roaming in Chowkidar hill and surrounding hills. Meanwhile, after getting the information, the people of forest department and local UP chairman went to visit. Poragaon UP Chairman Jamal Uddin confirmed the matter.
