A farmer was killed and seven others were injured in an attack by opponents in Bagerhat’s Morelganj.

The murder happened on Friday (April 26) around 8 am.

The name of the deceased is Abdul Hakim Jomaddar (62). He is the son of Ayub Ali Zomaddar of Gwatla village of Nishanbaria Union.

The other injured are Harun Jomadder (50), Latif Jomadder (55), Rashid Jomadder (42), Alam Howlader (70), Liton Howlader (45), Jamila Begum (50) and Mehdi Hasan (35).

According to his younger brother Matiar Rahman Jomaddar, Hakeem Jomaddar was killed in a sudden attack by opponents of the same village due to a land dispute.

Matiar Rahman Jomaddar said that around 7 am, neighbor Shahidul Howladar attacked his brother Hakim Jomaddar with 10-12 people. When Hakeem went to treat Zomadda while he was injured, he was arrested on the way, beaten and left on the road with serious injuries.

His relatives rescued him and took him to Morelganj Upazila Hospital. Shahriar Fattah declared him dead.

Morelganj police station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Samsuddin visited the scene and said that one person was killed and several others were injured in the incident. The police have taken control of the situation. The body was recovered and sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. An operation has been started to arrest the killers of the deceased Hakeem Jomaddar.
