Voting for the second phase of India’s Lok Sabha elections has begun. Voting starts at 7 am local time and will continue till 4 pm. In the first phase, voting was held in more than a hundred constituencies, but in the second phase, it was held in 88 constituencies.

That is, in the second phase, polling is going on in 88 constituencies of 13 states across India. In a report on Friday (April 26), the Indian media NDTV reported this information.

According to Indian media, the fate of several ‘heavyweight’ candidates will be decided in the second round of voting on Friday. Undoubtedly, Rahul Gandhi’s name is the first among them. The former president of the Indian National Congress and one of the top leaders of the party has contested from Wanad in the southern state of Kerala.

BJP has fielded K Surendran against him in this seat. On the other hand, CPI’s Annie Raja is also in the fray against him. There may be a strong fight in this seat of Kerala.

Thiruvananthapuram seat is next after Wanad. Congress candidate here is Shashi Tharoor. This is a tough fight with BJP’s Rajiv Chandrasekhar. There are Mathura, Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. This time BJP has nominated ‘Ram’ in Merut.

BJP has fielded Arun Govil, the very popular face of Ramayana series, in the polls. The main two contenders are Sunita Verma of Sapar and Devabrata Kumar Tyagi of Bospar.

From Meerut, the focus is on Mathura, where BJP’s star candidate Hema Malini is. He is the Member of Parliament of this constituency. His main rivals are Suresh Singh of Bospar and Mukesh Dhnagar of Congress. Voting in two seats of Rajasthan is also in the second phase. Kota and Jhalawar. Quota candidate Om Birla. Candidate in Jhalawar is Bashundhara Raj’s son Dushmant Singh.

Election in three constituencies of West Bengal today. There are three constituencies – Darjeeling, Balurghat and Raiganj. It remains to be seen whether the BJP can retain power in the hills. This time also BJP has nominated Raju Bista.

On the other hand Balurghat seat is also ‘heavyweight’. This seat is the seat of BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar.

Earlier, the first phase of Lok Sabha polls was held on April 19. A total of 21 states and union territories fought in 102 centers in that phase. The total number of voters in the first phase was 16.63 crore.

In addition, in the first phase, voting was held in 39 seats of Tamil Nadu, 12 of Rajasthan, 8 of Uttar Pradesh, 6 of Madhya Pradesh, 5 of Uttarakhand, 5 of Maharashtra, 5 of Assam, 4 of Bihar, 3 of West Bengal.

Apart from this, two seats each in Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Meghalaya, one seat each in Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Paducherry and Jammu and Kashmir are contested.
