At least 155 people have died in floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in the East African country of Tanzania. At least 236 people were injured in this disaster. More than 2 lakh people have been affected.

According to the BBC report, the country’s Prime Minister Kasim Majaliwa gave this information yesterday (April 25) while giving a report to Parliament on the situation in Tanzania since January this year.

He said that the country has faced this loss due to floods and landslides caused by rainfall due to El Nino. He urged the residents to leave the flood-prone areas saying that the rains may continue till May.

He also said that more than 51 thousand families have been affected by the rain. Apart from this, crops, houses, property of citizens, infrastructure like roads, bridges and railways were damaged.

Meanwhile, Majaliwa warned people living in low-lying areas to move to higher ground and urged local officials to ensure necessary services to those whose homes were washed away.

El Nino means warm ocean currents in the Pacific Ocean. which is associated with floods, droughts and other natural disasters. Developing countries that depend on agriculture and fishing are the most affected by El Niño.
