At least 155 people have been killed in floods and landslides in the East African country of Tanzania. More than two hundred people were injured in this incident. Prime Minister Qasim also said that about 2 lakh people and more than 51 thousand families have already been affected by this disaster. Heavy rains are also falling in neighboring Kenya and Burundi, causing a humanitarian crisis in the region, the BBC says. While giving a report to the Parliament of Tanzania on the situation in the country since January this year, Prime Minister Majaliwa said that 236 people were injured in addition to the 155 killed. He said, ‘Heavy rains caused by El Nino along with strong winds, floods and landslides have caused significant damage in different parts of the country. It also includes loss of life, crops, homes, civilian property and destruction of infrastructure such as roads, bridges and railways. A resident of Siha district in northern Tanzania told the BBC his house had been destroyed. He said, ‘I have nothing left, everything is washed away. On the other hand, in Kenya, President William Ruto ordered the army to assist in the rescue operation. Mainly in this country too, heavy rains hit large parts of the country, including the capital Nairobi, and many things including houses, furniture and other belongings in some slum areas were washed away. More than 10 people have died in Kenya this week. And at least 45 people have died in the country since last March, according to the Red Cross. Also in Burundi, heavy rains displaced nearly 100,000 people.
