The police recovered the body of a housewife named Akalima Begum (28) from inside the septic tank after 6 days of disappearance in Sherpur’s Jhenaigati.

The body was recovered from Dainerpar village of Malizhikanda Union of the upazila at 2:30 am on Thursday, April 25. Akalima Begum is the wife of Rahmatullah, son of Abdul Latif of that village.

According to the police and the housewife’s family sources, Rahmatullah married Akalima, daughter of Abdul Hakim of neighboring Hatibandha village in 2010. Akalima became the mother of two children after marriage. Later there was a divorce between them. Rahmatullah was having a second marriage. At one point, Rahmatullah took his first wife again and kept her in Akalima’s father’s house.

But sometimes Rahmatullah used to beat Akalima for demanding dowry. On the night of April 19, Rahmatullah called Akalima and brought her from her father’s house to Rahmatullah’s house. From that day Akalima Begum and Rahmatullah could not be found.

Later on April 21, Akalima’s brother Abul Hashem filed a complaint at Jhenaigati police station as the plaintiff. Thana police arrested Rahmatullah from nearby Srivardi upazila on Thursday afternoon on the basis of Rahmatullah’s mobile phone. On the other hand, the stench was coming out from inside the safety tank of Rahmatullah’s house. On the basis of this information given by the local residents, Akalima’s half-melted body was recovered from the safety tank of Rahmatullah’s house.

Police have sent the body to Sherpur District Headquarters Hospital Morgue for post-mortem. Confirming the truth of the incident, the officer in charge of Jhenaigati police station, Bachir Ahmed Badal, said that legal measures are under process.
