Youth killed, 4 injured after auto rickshaw hit standing covered van

Covered van standing in Konabari of Gazipur was hit by a CNG-powered autorickshaw. A passenger named Saimun Islam (37) was killed. Four people, including the autorickshaw driver, were seriously injured in the incident.

The accident happened in front of Konabari Bisik No. 6 gate of Dhaka-Tangail highway on Friday (26th April) around 5:30 am.

Killed in the accident. Saimun Islam is the son of Shamsul Alam of Kanuhari village of Mohanganj police station in Netrakona. However, the names of the injured were not found. They were rescued and sent to the hospital.

According to police and local sources, a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw heading towards Tangail from Gazipur in Konabari area at a reckless speed hit the back of a standing covered van around 5:15 am on Friday. This caused the autorickshaw to twist. The passenger in the auto-rickshaw, Saimun Islam, died on the spot. Four passengers including the driver were seriously injured.

Gazipur Metropolitan Konabari Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Sohag Chowdhury said that the body of the deceased was recovered after receiving information. After post-mortem, the body was sent to the morgue of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur for post-mortem. Apart from this, the driver of the covered van, Shaon (21), son of Mehedi Hasan of Sohagdal village of Swarupkathi police station of Pirojpur, has been arrested. Legal action in this regard is under process.
