Rakib went to Singapore to remove the lack of family and returned as a dead body

Five days after his death, the body of a Bangladeshi laborer named Rakib Hossain (22), who was killed in a road accident while working on construction in Singapore, has returned to the country. Rakib Benapole is the son of Mominur Rahman of Ghiba village of Bandar police station.

He arrived at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport from Singapore on Thursday (April 25) around 9:30 pm. From there, his body reached his home in Narayanpur village of Benapole around 4 am on Friday (April 26).

On April 3, Rakib was seriously injured when he was inadvertently crushed under a bundle of rods while doing construction work on a multi-storey building in Singapore. He died last Saturday (April 20) night after undergoing treatment for 16 days.

Milan Hossain, the uncle of the deceased Rakib, said that on April 3, Rakib was seriously injured in a road accident while doing construction work. Soon after the accident, Singapore Civil Defense Force rescuers rescued him from under the rod and admitted him to hospital. He died after some treatment.

Mominur Rahman, the father of deceased Rakib, said that Rakib went to Singapore a year ago to relieve the needy family. He used to work in construction there. Last April 3 he went to work as usual. At one stage that day around 5 pm while lifting the bundle of rods on top of the building, the rope broke and he got buried under the rods. From there, Singapore Civil Defense Force rescue workers and colleagues rescued him and admitted him to hospital. After 16 days of treatment, Rakib died on April 20 around 11 pm.

Mofizur Rahman Mofiz, Chairman of Bahadurpur Union Parishad of Benapole Port Police Station, said, ‘Rakib, who was killed in Singapore, was a resident of Ghiba village in my union. Learned through his family that he was crushed to death while working in Singapore. His body was brought to the village on Friday morning.’
