Four children drowned in two separate places in Comilla. On Thursday (April 25), four children drowned in two places of Chandina and Daudkandi upazilas of the district.
An 8-year-old child named Faisal and a 7-year-old child named Rifat drowned in the pond of Barkota village of Daudkandi upazila this morning. The deceased Faisal Barkota area. Nazrul is the son of Islam and Rifat is the son of Anwar Hossain of the same area.
Relatives of the two deceased children said that around 11 am on Thursday, the children Faisal and Rifat were playing near the house. Suddenly, after searching without finding them, their bodies are found floating in the water of the pool. Later, they were rescued and taken to the Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared them dead.
Daudkandi Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mozammel Haque said, “I have heard the news of the death of two children, but no one filed any complaint at the police station.
On the other hand, an 8-year-old child named Sadia and a 7-year-old child named Nadia drowned in the Tulatli area of Chandina upazila on Thursday afternoon. Deceased Sadia is the daughter of Saiful Islam of Tulatli area and Nadia is the daughter of Abdul Quddus Montu of the same area.
The family of the two children said that the two children left the house to play with bicycles. Abdul Jabbar, the grandfather of the deceased Sadia, saw the bicycle and shoes near the banyan tree 200 yards from the house at around 12 noon. Not finding them, he took the bicycle and shoes home. Since then, their family has not found them anywhere. The family members suspected that Nadia’s grandmother found another pair of pants at the same place at 2 pm. After that, the bodies of two children were found drowning in the water.
Abdul Latif, grandfather of the deceased Nadia, said that the two were rescued from the water and taken to the Chandina Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared them dead.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandina Police Station Ahmed Sanjur Morshed said that since the families of the two deceased children did not file a written complaint, when the relatives were allowed to bury the child, the two bodies were buried.
