The Palestinian armed group Hamas has said that the fighting will stop completely if Israel wants to take back any of its hostages. In this case, no other conditions will be accepted. Even pressure from the US will not work. Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri told Reuters news agency, “We don’t value US pressure.”
On Wednesday (April 24), Hamas released a video of an Israeli-American hostage named Hers Goldberg-Pollin. The United States then began pressuring Hamas to release the hostages.
US President Joe Biden made a joint statement with 18 countries on Thursday. And after such a statement by Biden, Hamas said that they do not value the pressure of the United States.
On October 7, the war between the occupying Israel and the Palestinian armed group Hamas began. More than 34,000 Palestinians have been killed in the war that has lasted for more than six months. Besides, about 1 lakh people were injured.
On October 7, the day the war started, Hamas attacked various illegal settlements in Israel and captured about 250 people in Gaza. They released 105 of them during a week-long ceasefire in the last week of November last year.
The release of the hostages has been in the news ever since the American-Israeli hostage video was released yesterday.
