The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested seven accused from Mohipal in Feni in connection with the murder of a youth at Chakria in Cox’s Bazar.
Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Anwar Hossain Shamim of RAB-15 Cox’s Bazar Battalion office gave this information at 10 am on Thursday. Earlier on Wednesday night they were arrested in a raid in Mohipal area of Feni district.
The arrested persons are Md Nurul Alam (32), son of Akhtar Ahmad of Malumghat East Dumkhali area of Dulahazara Union of Chakaria Upazila, Md Shah Alam (27), son of Chayed Alam, Abu Bakkar (27) son of Nur Ahmed, Md Azizul Haque, son of late Chiddiq Ahmed. (40), Syed Ahmed’s son Mansoor Alam (32), Ibrahim Khalil’s son Md Abu Hanif (32) and Aktar Ahmad’s son Nurul Anwar (33).
RAB-15 Additional Superintendent of Police Anwar Hossain said, ‘Yesterday evening, a team of RAB conducted an operation on the information about the location of some accused in the case, including the main planner and main accused in the case, in Mohipal area of Feni district. In this, seven accused accused were arrested while hiding in a living room.
Anwar Hossain said about the statement of the case, ‘Abdur Rahman was preparing for Iftar with his friends in a shop of East Dumkhali station of Dulahazara Union of Chakria on the evening of March 25. At this time, a group of miscreants took him away at gunpoint. He was later hacked and shot dead. Abdur Rahman’s wife Sabina Yasmil filed a case at Chakaria police station on March 27, naming 19 people and accusing 34 people.
He also said, ‘Since the filing of the case, along with the police, RAB also started an operation to arrest those involved in the incident. At some point on Wednesday night, RAB received information that some of the accused including the main planner of the incident, Mansoor Alam, were hiding in Mohipal area of Feni district. Later, a team of RAB raided there and arrested seven people.
Anwar Hossain also said that the arrested accused have been handed over to Chakaria police station.
